What Does 클릭하다 Mean?
클릭하다 is a loanword plus 하다. The thing clicked takes 을/를: 버튼을 클릭하다, 링크를 클릭하다. For physical buttons and keys, 누르다 is used. On phone screens, 터치하다 or 누르다 are common as well.
클릭하다 is the standard verb in web and app instructions. Screens address the user politely, so the form you will read most is the honorific 클릭하세요 (please click). The English word is borrowed and 하다 turns it into a verb, the same recipe as 로그인하다 (to log in) and 입력하다 (to enter text).
How Do You Pronounce 클릭하다?
The ㅎ of 하 merges with the ㄱ of the preceding syllable to make a ㅋ sound. 클릭해요 is read [클리캐요], 클릭했어요 [클리캐써요], 클릭합니다 [클리캄니다], and 클릭하세요 [클리카세요].
How Do You Use 클릭하다 in a Sentence?
The examples cover a button, a link that will not open and a click that leads to the next screen.
이 버튼을 클릭해요.
Click this button.
The object 이 버튼을 uses 을 because the verb is transitive.
링크를 클릭했어요. 그런데 안 열려요.
I clicked the link, but it does not open.
The past 클릭했어요 starts a story: the link was clicked but did not open.
여기를 클릭하면 다음 화면이 나와요.
If you click here, the next screen appears.
The conditional 클릭하면 describes what the click does next.
Useful Patterns with 클릭하다
Typical objects are 버튼 and 링크, and 여기를 클릭하세요 (click here) is a stock instruction. When a set of steps asks you to pick an item from a menu, the verb is often 선택하다 (to choose) rather than 클릭하다, even though you click to do it.
How Does Keullikada Conjugation Work?
클릭하다 is a 하다 verb, so it conjugates like 하다 itself: 하 + 여 becomes 해, giving 클릭해요 and 클릭했어요. The short negative splits the noun from 하다 and puts 안 in between: 클릭 안 해요.

Common Mistake
Wrong: ✗ 버튼에 클릭해요
Correct: ✓ 버튼을 클릭해요
Why: Clicked items take 을/를, not 에, because 클릭하다 is a transitive verb. English "click on" tempts learners to use 에, the particle for a location.
How It Differs from Similar Words
| Word | How to tell it from 클릭하다 |
|---|---|
| 누르다 | 누르다 is to press a physical button or a key; 클릭하다 is to click with a mouse or tap on screen. |
| 선택하다 | 선택하다 is to choose an option; 클릭하다 is the physical action. |
A Registration Link Will Not Open
A learner is registering for a class while an office assistant explains the screen. The assistant gives an instruction, the learner reports a completed click, and the assistant explains the expected result.
Assistant
이 링크를 클릭하세요.
I ringkeureul keullikaseyo.
Please click this link.
Learner
클릭했어요. 그런데 안 열려요.
Keullikaesseoyo. Geureonde an yeollyeoyo.
I clicked it, but it won’t open.
Assistant
아래 버튼을 클릭하면 신청 화면이 나와요.
Arae beoteuneul keullikamyeon sincheong hwamyeoni nawayo.
If you click the button below, the registration screen appears.
Learner
이제 보여요. 감사합니다.
Ije boyeoyo. Gamsahamnida.
I can see it now. Thank you.
클릭하세요 is the instruction, 클릭했어요 reports what the learner already tried, and 클릭하면 introduces the result of an action. 아래, “below”, helps identify a different target instead of asking the learner to repeat the same unsuccessful click.
Which Click Phrases Appear on Screens?
여기를 클릭하세요 means “click here”. 여기 is a place word, but 를 makes it the target of the click. The English preposition “on” does not require 에 in this Korean pattern. A more specific instruction names the button or link, which is useful when several controls are visible.
링크를 클릭하다 means to click a link. 버튼을 클릭하다 means to click a button. Both describe an action on the interface, rather than the final outcome. A click may open a page, submit a form or do nothing if the page has a problem. The existing example with 안 열려요 separates the action from its failed result.
더블 클릭 means “double-click”: two clicks used together as one command. 오른쪽 클릭 means “right-click”, using the mouse’s secondary button. These are ordinary computer terms. The words describe different mouse actions, so neither is simply a more emphatic way to say “click”.
확인 버튼 is a confirmation button, and 취소 버튼 is a cancel button. Learning their labels matters as much as recognizing 클릭하세요. The verb tells you to act; the noun tells you which action you are about to confirm or abandon.
Where Will You Read 클릭하다?
Website help pages and computer instructions use 클릭하다 when explaining a sequence. The polite request 클릭하세요 addresses the reader directly. The formal 클릭합니다 can appear in a written procedure describing what the user does at each step. It has the same core meaning, with a different sentence style.
In spoken technical help, 클릭했어요 reports that the action has already been tried. To explain a problem clearly, add the result afterward, as in the existing example about a link that will not open. Reporting only the click leaves the listener unsure whether anything went wrong.
Phone instructions may use 누르다 or 터치하다 because the finger touches the screen. 선택하다 focuses on choosing an option, and 입력하다 on entering information. A registration process can involve all of these. Translate each step by its purpose rather than replacing every English interface verb with 클릭하다.
What Makes Spelling and Sound Differ?
Write 클릭하다 as one word when using the verb. Its pronunciation combines the final ㄱ of 클릭 with the ㅎ of 하다, producing the aspirated sound shown in the pronunciation section. The spelling still keeps both parts. Hearing that combined sound is not a reason to rewrite the word with ㅋ.
Only the 하다 part changes in 클릭해요 and 클릭했어요. The loanword 클릭 stays intact. Before a consonant ending, 하 also stays visible: 클릭하면 and 클릭합니다. This makes the verb predictable once you recognize where the borrowed noun ends and the Korean verb begins.
The short negative 클릭 안 해요 has spaces because 안 stands before 해요. The longer negative 클릭하지 않아요 keeps 클릭하지 together and separates 않아요. Both report that the click does not happen. For an actual instruction, use the positive 클릭하세요 shown above rather than treating every polite present as a command.
