This privacy policy explains that Learn Korean Hangul needs no account, keeps learning progress only in your browser, and measures visits with two analytics tools: Plausible, which uses no cookies, and Google Analytics, which does. Some details, such as the jurisdiction and log retention, are still to be confirmed and are listed below.
What This Privacy Policy Covers
This policy covers the Learn Korean Hangul website, its audio files and its practice tools. It is written for the design set out in the site's specifications, and it is a utility page for readers, not a legal opinion. A legal review has not been carried out, so the "still to be confirmed" section below lists what is open.
The next section answers the main question: what data does the site collect?
What Data Do We Collect?
The site is built to collect very little. The table shows each kind of data, where it lives, why it exists and how long it stays.
| Data | Where it is stored | Purpose | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flashcard progress (card identifiers, review boxes, due dates) | Your browser only | To resume your review | Until you reset it or clear site data |
| Settings (romanization on or off, reduced motion, similar toggles) | Your browser only | To remember your display choices | Until you reset it or clear site data |
| Text typed into tools | Your browser only, in memory | To run the tool | Not sent to a server |
| Standard request data (page requested, time, technical details) | Cloudflare, the hosting provider (pages, audio and images) | To deliver pages and keep the site running | Not yet confirmed |
| A message you choose to send | Delivered to the mailbox for contact@learn-korean-hangul.com, or editorial@learn-korean-hangul.com for privacy requests | To reply and to fix content | Only as long as needed |
No names, email addresses or passwords are collected for learning, because there are no accounts. Nothing here is used to train AI models.
Where Is Your Learning Progress Stored?
Progress is kept in your browser's own storage, called local storage, or IndexedDB for large decks. It never leaves your device unless you export it. If your browser blocks storage, the site shows a notice that progress will not be saved. For example, Hangul flashcard decks save which cards are due in your browser only, so a different browser or device starts empty.
What Do Our Servers Log?
The site is served from Cloudflare's network, and audio, images and tool files from media.learn-korean-hangul.com on Cloudflare's R2 service. Like any web server, they handle technical request data, such as the page requested, the time and the type of browser. That data is used to deliver pages and keep the site secure. The log retention period has not been confirmed.
Next, cookies and analytics are covered.
Cookies and Analytics
The lessons and tools do not need cookies. The site's own code sets none, but Google Analytics does, as described below. Which technical cookies the hosting provider might set has not been verified.
Two analytics tools measure how the site is used:
- Plausible, run on our own server, counts page views without cookies and without cross-site tracking. It records the page, the referring site, the browser, the device type and the country, and does not store IP addresses.
- Google Analytics 4, a Google service, sets first-party cookies (
_gaand_ga_<id>) that keep a random visitor identifier for up to two years. It sends page views, approximate location, device and browser details to Google, and Google's privacy policy applies to that data.
You can block both with a content blocker or by refusing cookies in your browser settings; lessons, audio and tools keep working.
Third-Party Services
The site loads its own scripts, fonts and styles from its own domain, except Google's analytics tag from www.googletagmanager.com. Plausible page views are sent by the site's own script to our Plausible server. The other services are Cloudflare for pages and Cloudflare R2 for audio and images. Search runs in your browser against an index the site provides, so search words are not sent to a search service.
No other third party is used. If one is added, it will be listed here first.
Export, Import and Delete Your Data
You can export, import or reset your saved progress from the progress page, which is a utility page. Export downloads a small file containing only card identifiers, review data and settings. Import reads that file back after checking it. Reset deletes saved progress for one deck or all decks after a confirmation.
You can also clear your browser's site data for this website, and that deletes everything the site has saved in that browser. Clearing it is permanent, so export first if you want to keep your progress.
Your Rights
The site holds almost no personal data. If you sent a message, you can ask what was kept, ask for it to be corrected or ask for it to be deleted by emailing editorial@learn-korean-hangul.com (see also the contact page). Laws such as the GDPR give people in some countries rights of access, correction and deletion, and requests will be handled in line with the law that applies.
The AI use page confirms that visitor data is not used to train AI models. Display and motion preferences, which are stored in your browser, are described in the accessibility statement.
Details Still to Be Confirmed
This page is honest about its gaps. Three items are open:
- Jurisdiction. Min-ji Park is the data controller; the jurisdiction that applies is not yet named.
- Log retention. The hosting provider's log retention period is not yet confirmed.
- Legal review. The wording has not been reviewed by a lawyer.
See About Learn Korean Hangul for the other trust pages, and read the accessibility commitments next.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does private browsing keep my progress? No. Private or incognito windows usually erase saved site data when the window closes, so your progress will be lost. If your browser blocks storage, the site shows a notice that progress will not be saved. Practice still works for that session, and you can export your progress before you close the window.
Can I move my progress to another device? Yes, by hand. Use the export option to download a small file of your card progress and settings, then import that file in the other browser. There is no account to sync, so nothing moves automatically, and the file contains no name or email.
Do you show ads? No ads are active in the current plans. The longer-term plans allow clearly labelled extras and respectful advertising, with core lessons staying free. If advertising or any tracking is ever added, this policy will be updated first and will say what is collected and by whom.
Who is the data controller? Min-ji Park is the data controller for Learn Korean Hangul. Privacy requests and questions go to editorial@learn-korean-hangul.com. The jurisdiction that applies is still to be confirmed and will be added here.
