Korea Tax Refund Calculator

The Korea tax refund calculator checks tourist shopping receipts, refund limits and export dates. It separates VAT included in a price from the amount a refund operator pays, so travelers can review each purchase and trip total without sharing passport or card details.

How to Use the Korea Tax Refund Calculator

Start with the final Korean-won amount printed on one receipt. Enter its purchase date and your planned departure date, then choose the refund route you intend to use. The first result explains the VAT reference and whether the facts entered are sufficient for that route. A request for more information is a useful result: it tells you which fact to confirm before relying on a refund in your travel budget.

Open Visitor facts to confirm nonresident visitor status, retailer participation and unused goods. The calculator initially treats these as unknown. It does not infer residency from a passport nationality, assume that every shop participates, or silently turn an unanswered question into yes. Return to the receipt screen and check again after changing the facts. The amount remains an arithmetic reference even when the refund route is unavailable.

Use More for examples, receipt records, the trip ledger, route checklists, written payout comparisons and exports. Advanced controls replace the working frame rather than pushing the result far down the page. You can perform the ordinary check on a phone, then use the supporting explanations below when you need to resolve a particular rule. Copy returns the current result; reset clears the current inputs while preserving the separately recorded trip.

VAT Included in a Shopping Price

VAT reference: the shopper separates a gross receipt from two amount cards identifying the before-tax and included-tax values.
VAT reference: the shopper separates a gross receipt from two amount cards identifying the before-tax and included-tax values.

For a price that already includes 10% VAT, the taxable price before VAT is ten elevenths of the receipt total. The VAT portion is one eleventh. A receipt of 110,000 won therefore consists of a 100,000 won reference before tax and 10,000 won of VAT. Taking 10% of the final receipt would produce 11,000 won, which is a different calculation and overstates the VAT included in this example.

A 100,000 won VAT-inclusive receipt contains an exact VAT reference of 100,000 divided by eleven. The calculator shows 9,091 won after whole-won rounding, while retaining the fraction for arithmetic. It does not repeatedly round each intermediate operation. That matters for a trip containing many receipts: an exact sum should be rounded once for the displayed total rather than accumulating the rounding differences of individually displayed amounts.

Before-tax mode is available for understanding a price quotation. A before-tax amount of 100,000 won produces 10,000 won of VAT and a gross reference of 110,000 won. It is not a substitute for the actual final eligible receipt. Custom reference rates are likewise educational arithmetic. Changing the reference rate does not rewrite Korean tourist-refund requirements or turn another country’s purchase into a Korean eligible receipt.

The Difference between VAT and Your Payout

Payout comparison: a receipt and a written operator payout slip occupy distinct trays instead of being treated as the same amount.
Payout comparison: a receipt and a written operator payout slip occupy distinct trays instead of being treated as the same amount.

VAT in a price, an eligible purchase and a payment from a refund operator are three different quantities. The first is arithmetic; the second depends on visitor, retailer, goods, purchase and export facts; the third depends on the merchant’s operator, applicable schedule, channel, deductions and processing requirements. A result containing 10,000 won of VAT is not a promise that you will receive 10,000 won.

Enter a written payout quote when the participating merchant or operator supplies one. For the 110,000 won example, a documented payout of 7,000 won leaves an effective price of 103,000 won after that payout. The difference between the VAT reference and the quoted payout is 3,000 won. The page labels those values separately so that a convenient percentage shortcut does not obscure the actual money involved.

A quote above the VAT-only reference needs further examination. It might contain a different tax, a promotion, a correction or an input mistake. Do not conclude that the operator is wrong simply because the purchase has more than one tax component. Instead, obtain the breakdown and keep mixed-tax goods outside a VAT-only ceiling claim. No generic operator payout percentage is supplied as an authoritative schedule on this page.

Who Can Use the Tourist-Shopping Route

The ordinary tourist-shopping route concerns qualifying visitors and participating retailers. Residence, visit duration and the precise visitor category matter; nationality by itself is insufficient. Answer the nonresident question using the relevant official requirements and your actual circumstances. If you are a confirmed resident, the visitor route does not become eligible merely because the purchase contains VAT or the receipt exceeds a minimum amount.

Exact duration boundaries deserve special care. A visitor at a six-month boundary, or an overseas Korean at an applicable residence or visit boundary, should confirm the current rule rather than rely on a rounded description such as about six months. The calculator retains an unknown result for these cases. This is also appropriate where a military or tourism-zone exception may apply: an exception requires confirmation rather than a blanket assumption.

The goods should be unused and available for the required export process. Tobacco, prohibited goods, already duty-free purchases and services are outside this page’s ordinary goods calculation. A hotel or other service may have a different legal treatment; this tool does not transfer shopping rules to it. Where the merchant’s participation is unknown, the VAT reference still works, but the route result asks you to confirm the retailer.

Receipt Minimums and Immediate Refunds

Receipt boundaries: two small receipts are kept physically separate rather than stacked into a qualifying single transaction.
Receipt boundaries: two small receipts are kept physically separate rather than stacked into a qualifying single transaction.

Check the final value of each receipt independently. The applicable minimum used here is 15,000 won. Two receipts for 8,000 and 7,000 won are not automatically converted into one qualifying 15,000 won receipt. Keeping them separate prevents a trip total from creating a false positive. Ask the retailer how its actual transaction and refund document are issued before assuming that several purchases constitute one receipt.

For the immediate-refund route, the single purchase must be below 1,000,000 won. The calculator therefore distinguishes 999,999 from 1,000,000. At the trip level, applicable immediate-refund purchases are checked against a 5,000,000 won aggregate ceiling. Previous immediate-refund purchase gross amounts remain in that aggregate even though their refunds have already been paid. Unpaid VAT and the aggregate purchase amount are not interchangeable counters.

A previous immediate-refund purchase total of 4,900,000 won plus a new 100,000 won purchase reaches 5,000,000 won. Raising the previous total by one won crosses the aggregate check. Earlier expired, unexported obligations also need attention. If such an obligation is confirmed, the immediate route fails this check; if you do not know, the calculator requests confirmation instead of assuming a clean record.

Departure, Downtown and Alternative Routes

A purchase too large for immediate refund is not automatically disqualified from every refund route. The departure route has different processing requirements, and the calculator does not reuse the immediate single-purchase ceiling as an airport ceiling. The useful next question is which legitimate pathway the merchant supports and what export confirmation is required. A different route may also involve a different operator schedule or payment method.

The downtown advance route checks the stated purchase ceiling of 6,000,000 won separately. An advance is not proof that customs export requirements have been completed. Confirm any guarantee, card security or repayment condition directly with the operator. Record an advance-paid receipt distinctly so that its VAT is not counted again as an unpaid refund while its export obligation remains visible in your ledger.

At an airport, customs inspection and operator payment are separate steps. Keep the goods available before checking baggage and follow current terminal instructions. A mailbox submission or a mobile operator workflow can also require specific documents and evidence. The local checklist helps you prepare questions; it does not submit forms, validate a membership barcode or report a live payment event from an operator’s private system.

Three Calendar Months and Export Dates

Calendar months: a traveler compares purchase and departure date cards with a packed suitcase waiting at an apartment door.
Calendar months: a traveler compares purchase and departure date cards with a packed suitcase waiting at an apartment door.

Enter dates in their labeled calendar fields. The proposed export deadline adds three Gregorian calendar months to the purchase date, clamping the day to the final day of the destination month when necessary. A purchase on 31 January reaches 30 April; a purchase on 30 November reaches the last day of February. This is different from adding a fixed ninety-day duration, which can drift around months of different lengths.

The exact deadline endpoint is retained as a confirmation case. A departure on the computed last day should be checked with customs or the responsible operator instead of receiving a guaranteed eligible label from an assumption about whether the endpoint is inclusive. A departure after that proposed date fails the date check. The result states the uncertainty explicitly, allowing you to adjust your plan or seek authoritative confirmation.

A departure date before the purchase is an input error. The dates describe the relevant purchase and intended export, not the date you happen to type the calculation. For planning, keep hypothetical future receipts clearly separate from actual purchases. When your schedule changes, review every receipt again: an early purchase may cross its export window even when a later purchase remains within its own window.

Build a Useful Trip Ledger

Each record has a receipt identifier, price, purchase date, payment state and export state. The identifier is the strongest local duplicate control. Saving the same identifier edits the existing receipt; two different identifiers with matching prices and dates remain separate records with a similarity warning. This avoids deleting two legitimate purchases simply because they happen to have the same amount.

Payment states distinguish none, pending, immediate paid, advance paid and paid. Export states distinguish unknown, confirmed and failed. A payment can have arrived while export evidence still needs attention, and confirmed export does not itself establish the final payout. Keeping these dimensions separate is more informative than a single green completed label. Enter only the written payout actually quoted or received for that record.

The trip review sums the exact VAT reference of qualifying unpaid records and separately sums recorded paid amounts. A paid receipt is excluded from the unpaid reference. Search by identifier, nickname, operator or state to locate records without scrolling through the entire trip. Remove a mistaken record or use session undo to restore a previous change. Local statistics group gross purchases by day or month; they are planning aids, not official refund statements.

Privacy, Backups and Shared Summaries

The calculator works without a passport, payment card, uploaded receipt image or membership account. Ordinary calculations occur in your browser. Local saving is an explicit choice; when enabled, the trip stays on the current browser and device. It does not create an account or synchronize across devices. In Local security, choose a lifetime of one, seven or thirty days and optionally protect records with a passphrase of at least twelve characters. Encrypted records use browser cryptography and require that passphrase after reloading; the site cannot recover it. Exported JSON remains readable, so handle the backup separately. Anyone who can use the same browser profile may be able to access browser-stored records, so choose an appropriate device.

A JSON export preserves the receipt records, departure date, earlier immediate-refund purchases and local checklist notes for your own backup. CSV import lets you match your own amount, date and identifier columns. Preview each receipt, correct its price or date and confirm the row before importing. Unknown visitor facts remain unknown after confirmation; confirming a number does not establish legal eligibility. When identifiers match existing receipts, deliberately choose replacement or new identifiers instead of silently combining records. CSV is useful for a spreadsheet and protects text beginning with formula characters. Before sending either file to somebody else, review identifiers, notes, dates and operator details. A shared summary link is intentionally smaller: it contains the receipt count, gross total and rule version, while leaving receipt identifiers, nicknames and purchase dates out of the link.

Use Saved trips for up to twenty named scenarios. Each snapshot retains its receipt states and trip assumptions. The daily and monthly statistics separate spending from recorded payouts; a pending written quote never appears as money received. History is held in memory unless you enable local saving, and you can restore or delete individual named trips. Delete local records when you no longer need them. A downloaded backup remains wherever you saved it and must be managed separately. Exporting is not a payment submission, and importing a backup does not contact an operator. If two versions of a trip disagree, compare the receipt identifiers and the actual evidence before deciding which value to retain. A silent merge can lose a correction or count a paid refund twice.

Finding a Participating Shop or Refund Desk

Use the merchant’s named operator and its official destination guide or finder. Participation, hours, terminal locations and available payment methods can change. This page does not publish an invented list of branches or imply that every shop in a district offers tourist refunds. A bookmarked city or airport is a local itinerary note; it is not a verified participating merchant or a reservation.

Location permission is optional. If your browser denies it or the device cannot obtain a position, enter the city or airport manually and open an official finder. A coordinate by itself does not prove the nearest desk is open, accepts your documents or serves your operator. Check the exact operator, departure terminal, operating hours and supported refund channel before making a detour with luggage.

A shop promotion should also remain distinct from a statutory tax refund. A discount, coupon or cashback offer can have its own eligible products and dates. The quoted final receipt and the merchant’s official refund document are the useful inputs for this calculator. Avoid combining a promotional promise with the VAT reference into a guaranteed net price unless both amounts have been confirmed for your actual transaction.

Document Checks and Pending Payments

Document verification: the shopper checks an original receipt against manually entered values beside a contemporary airport refund-desk queue.
Document verification: the shopper checks an original receipt against manually entered values beside a contemporary airport refund-desk queue.

Read the receipt amount and date from the original document before recording them. If you use a separate image-recognition product, confirm every extracted field, particularly thousands separators and identifiers. A blurry image can turn 15,000 into 150,000 or confuse a document number with a price. The local calculator accepts your confirmed manual values; it does not present an unconfirmed extraction as an eligible transaction.

Keep official documents and export evidence available for the operator’s secure process. Do not place passport details, card numbers or membership barcodes in a publicly shared note. Ask the operator which identifier it needs and use its authorized form. This page provides questions you can copy, but cannot verify a passport machine-readable zone, create an authorized operator membership or enroll your document in a provider tracking system.

If a payout remains pending after departure, review the submission evidence and the operator’s current guidance. An entry marked pending in your local trip is your own reminder. It is not a live tracking response. Ask whether customs confirmation was received, which payment method applies and what processing interval the operator states. Record the actual payout once it arrives; do not repeatedly add the same payment event to your trip total.

Worked Examples and Common Mistakes

Consider two 110,000 won receipts with confirmed ordinary goods and qualifying visitor facts. Each contains exactly 10,000 won of VAT reference, so the unpaid trip reference is 20,000 won. If one receipt has already received a 7,000 won payout, its VAT is removed from the unpaid reference and the recorded payout total becomes 7,000 won. The other receipt still needs its own operator quote; the first payout does not establish a universal percentage.

Now consider a 999,999 won receipt on the immediate route. Its gross price is below the single-purchase threshold, but the previous immediate-refund gross total can still make the trip exceed its ceiling. Changing only the refund amount will not repair that aggregate check. Conversely, changing the route to departure requires checking that route’s real conditions, not simply turning the previous failure into a green result.

The most common mistakes are taking ten percent of a tax-inclusive price, combining small independent receipts, forgetting paid immediate purchases in the trip aggregate, treating a payment as export confirmation, and relying on nationality alone. Another mistake is reading a rounded amount as exact contractual payout. The calculator’s reference labels and separate states are designed to keep those decisions visible rather than hide them behind one estimated refund percentage.

Sources, Rule Dates and Corrections

The rule snapshot used here identifies the decree effective on 2 January 2026. The source packet was checked on 11 October 2026. For the current legal text, open the Korean decree; for visitor guidance, consult the Korea Tourism Organization refund guide; export procedures are explained by Korea Customs. Keep source dates with a saved result because a later rule change can affect a future trip. This packet is due for review on 11 November 2026. After that date, calculations still show VAT arithmetic but eligibility becomes provisional until the packet is checked again. A future purchase date requires the explicit planning setting; a plan does not prove that a purchase happened.

Tourism translations and summaries can differ in their use of below, up to and at most. A threshold inequality should come from the current governing rule, while the visitor guide remains useful for ordinary process explanations. Exact export-endpoint and visitor-duration boundaries require confirmation. An expired cached rule packet should preserve arithmetic while making its route conclusion provisional; it should never silently continue to promise a current legal result.

Report an apparent error through the site’s contact page with the rule name, source link, date and a redacted example. Do not send a passport or complete payment document to demonstrate a calculator issue. A useful correction identifies the disputed condition, such as the exact threshold operator or month-end handling. Separating evidence from private identity makes the issue easier to examine and safer to discuss.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I Correct a Price after Saving My Trip?

Yes. Open the saved receipt, correct the whole-won price or purchase date, and save it using the same identifier. The local record is updated rather than duplicated. Review its payment and export states again, because a changed amount can cross a route limit. Undo can restore the previous trip during the session.

Will a Currency Conversion Match My Card Statement?

No. A dated exchange-rate reference cannot predict the rate, markup or posting date used by your card issuer. Keep the receipt and refund calculation in Korean won. Compare the actual payment and refund entries on your statement after they post, including any issuer fees.

Can Two Travelers Share One Saved Trip?

A shared trip summary is useful for discussion, but each traveler must satisfy their own eligibility and documentation requirements. Do not combine unrelated travelers to bypass a purchase limit. This page stores records on the current device only when you choose it; a shared summary link does not synchronize private records.

What If My Refund Is Still Pending after Departure?

Contact the operator named on the refund document through its official support channel. Keep the receipt identifier, export confirmation and submission evidence available privately. A local pending note is your own record, not a live operator status. Ask the operator about its payment method, processing time and any missing confirmation.

Can I Use the Page without Uploading Receipts?

Yes. Enter the price, purchase date and the facts needed for the check manually. The calculator does not require a passport, payment card or receipt image. Leave local saving off for a temporary session. If you export a trip backup, review the identifiers and notes before sharing the file.

Keep Your Korea Tax Refund Calculator Result Useful

Use the Korea tax refund calculator as a record of your entered facts, a transparent VAT reference and a checklist for the next confirmation. Keep the merchant’s written payout and actual export evidence alongside your private receipt record. Recheck a route after changing purchase amounts, travel dates or payment status, and ask the relevant authority or operator about unresolved boundaries before treating a refund as available spending money.

For the language around a purchase, practice shopping phrases and review shopping vocabulary. Read money and prices or use the Korean number converter to interpret an amount carefully. The airport phrase guide supports travel preparation, and the tools directory links to other practical calculators.
