Follow these steps. Each one tells you what you should see.

    1. Read the question and say any Korean text aloud once. You should see four choices.
    2. Pick one choice by click, tap or by pressing 1, 2, 3 or 4. The Check button turns active.
    3. Select Check. You see "Correct" or "Not quite", the right answer and a one-sentence reason. Select Next.
    4. After question 14, read the summary. It shows how many answers were correct in this session and links to the lesson and deck for the questions you missed.

Question order and choice order change every session, so a retake is never the same sequence. Each month question gives the number, so you only decide how to read it.

What Does the Months in Korean Quiz Cover?

The quiz has 14 questions. Twelve ask you to name one month, which means all twelve months appear once. One asks which number system month names use. One asks for 이번 달 (this month). The two irregular months, 유월 and 시월, are the questions most learners miss.

    Question type Count Example
Name a month from its number 12 How do you say June (6월)?
Which number system 1 Which kind of number do month names use?
Month as a word, 달 1 How do you say "this month"?

The lesson behind the quiz is months in Korean, and the matching deck is months in Korean flashcards. Month names follow one pattern, so one rule and two exceptions explain all twelve.

How Is the Months in Korean Quiz Scored?

The quiz gives one point for each of the 14 questions you answer correctly on the first try in the current session. At the end it shows a line such as "You answered 12 of 14 correctly in this session". There is no timer, no streak and no ranking, so you can slow down and say each answer aloud.

The count is not a CEFR level, a TOPIK level or a measure of fluency. It only shows what you recalled today. Your answers and score stay in your browser and disappear when you close the tab, unless you choose to save progress on your own device.

How Do Korean Month Names Work?

A month name is a Sino-Korean number plus 월 (wol), which means month. The number is the month number: 일 (1), 이 (2), 삼 (3) and so on up to 십이 (12). Two months change the number slightly: 6월 is 유월 (not 육월) and 10월 is 시월 (not 십월).

    Month Hangul Spoken Revised Romanization

Several names sound different from the spelling because the final consonant of the number moves to the next block. So 일월 is said [이뤌] and 칠월 is said [치뤌]. The word 월 can also mean "moon", and 달 is the native word for both month and moon.

To count months as a length of time, use 달 with a native number or 개월 with a Sino-Korean number. 세 달 and 삼 개월 both mean three months, but 삼월 is March. For the number pattern, see Sino-Korean numbers.

    Tips before You Start

    • Learn the rule first: Sino-Korean number + 월. Then learn the two exceptions, 유월 and 시월.
    • Say each month aloud with its number: 일월, 이월, 삼월, and so on in order.
    • Use the Korean number converter to check the Sino-Korean number if you are unsure.
    • Do not say the month as a native number. Months are never 하나월 or 둘월.

Which Mistakes Does the Months in Korean Quiz Catch?

    Four errors cover most misses.

    • Reading 6월 as 육월 instead of 유월.
    • Reading 10월 as 십월 instead of 시월.
    • Using native numbers, as in 다섯월 for May.
    • Confusing 사월 (April) with 시월 (October), which sound similar to a beginner.

The first two are rules of the language, not slips: the standard month names are 유월 and 시월 in writing and in speech. If you miss one, the explanation line says why.

What Does This Quiz Not Do?

The quiz covers month names, the number system behind them, and 이번 달. It does not cover dates (day of the month), years or weekdays, and it does not test counting months as a length of time beyond the note above.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Why is June 유월 and not 육월?

The Sino-Korean number for six is 육, but in the month name the sound changes: 6월 is written 유월 and said [유월]. October works the same way: 10월 is 시월, not 십월. These are the two irregular months. The other ten follow the plain rule of number plus 월.

Do months use native or Sino-Korean numbers?

Month names use Sino-Korean numbers: 일월, 이월, 삼월. Native numbers are used to count months as a length of time with 달, as in 한 달 (one month) and 두 달 (two months). So March is 삼월, but three months is 세 달 or 삼 개월.

What is the difference between 월 and 달?

월 is the month name suffix: 삼월 means March. 달 is the native word for month and for moon: 이번 달 means this month, and 한 달 means one month. You cannot say 삼 달 for March. Use 달 when you count or point at a month, not when you name it.

How many questions are on the months in Korean quiz?

There are 14 questions. Twelve name a single month, so every month from 1월 to 12월 appears once. One asks which number system month names use, and one asks for 이번 달 (this month). Question order and answer order are shuffled each session.

    Is the quiz free?

Yes. The quiz is free, needs no account and runs in your browser on a phone, tablet or computer. Nothing you answer is uploaded to a server. If you choose to save progress, it is stored on your own device only, and you can delete it in the settings at any time.

Retake the Months in Korean Quiz

Retake the months in Korean quiz after you can say all twelve months in order from memory. The reason line for each question is a mini-lesson, so reading it twice often helps more than a fast retake. When the quiz feels easy, move on to body parts.
