Days of the Week in Korean Flashcards: Study the 25 Cards

The cards start with the seven days from Monday to Sunday (cards 1 to 7), then 요일, 평일 and 주말 (8 to 10), the nearby days 오늘, 내일, 어제, 그저께 and 모레 (11 to 15), 날 and 휴일 (16 to 17), the week words 주, 이번 주, 다음 주, 지난주 and 일주일 (18 to 22), and the repeat words 매일, 매주 and 달력 (23 to 25).
How Do I Use These Flashcards?
Use the deck above in four steps. It works with tap, click or keyboard, and nothing plays until you press an audio button.
- Choose a mode. Start with recognition (Hangul to meaning). Switch to recall (meaning to Hangul) or listening (audio to meaning) once recognition feels easy.
- Show the answer. Think of the answer first, then press Show answer (or Space). Turn on the romanization toggle only if you need it; the table below always shows it.
- Grade yourself. Press Got it if you answered correctly without help, or Not yet if you hesitated or guessed.
- Finish the session. A session holds up to 20 cards (you can set 10, 20 or 40). With 25 cards, a first-time learner should expect about 3 days at the default limit of 10 new cards a day, with review sessions on top.
The Three Study Modes
Recognition shows the Hangul and asks for the meaning, so with the first card it shows 월요일 and you answer "Monday". Recall reverses this: it shows the meaning and asks for the Hangul, and you may type the answer with your Hangul keyboard or just say it in your head. Listening plays a clip and hides the letters, which trains the ear. Listening mode only uses a card once its audio is approved, and cards without approved audio are skipped in that mode with a note. Listening mode is worth using for the seven days, because 화요일 and 수요일 sound alike at speed.
Got It and Not Yet
Got it moves a card up one Leitner box, so it comes back later. Not yet sends the card back to box 1, so it returns in the same session or within 10 minutes. The grades are your own judgement; the deck does not score you or claim fluency.
Deck Scope: What Is and Is Not Covered
The deck covers the seven days, week-level time words and the nearby-day words 어제, 오늘, 내일. Months and clock times are in their own decks. The words and letters on these cards are explained in the days of the week in korean lesson, so read it first if a card is new.
What This Deck Leaves Out
Months are in the months in korean flashcards, and clock times and time expressions have their own lessons. Colors and other topic words are in other vocabulary decks.

Reading the Table
Hangul is the word. Revised Romanization (RR) is a learning aid, so read the Hangul first. RR follows sound changes between letters, which is why 월요일 is written woryoil and said [워료일]. The Meaning column gives the English gloss, and the Note column gives a meaning hint or a use. A second ID in the last column marks a slow clip.
Usage Notes for These Cards
The names come from the sun, the moon and five elements. The weekday names are one character plus 요일: 월 (moon), 화 (fire), 수 (water), 목 (wood), 금 (metal), 토 (earth), 일 (sun). Knowing this makes the names easier to keep apart.
Days take 에, nearby days do not. Days of the week take 에 for on: 월요일에 만나요 (Let's meet on Monday). But 오늘, 내일 and 어제 take no 에: 내일 만나요 (Let's meet tomorrow).
Ask the day with 무슨 요일. 오늘 무슨 요일이에요? means What day is it today? Answer with the day name plus 이에요, as in 오늘은 금요일이에요.
Week words take 에 or leave it out. 이번 주, 다음 주 and 지난주 mean this, next and last week, and both 다음 주 만나요 and 다음 주에 만나요 mean Let's meet next week.
Weekend means Saturday and Sunday. 주말 includes Saturday and Sunday, and 주말에 means on the weekend: 주말에 뭐 해요? (What do you do on weekends?). 평일 is a weekday, from Monday to Friday.
Which Sounds Do Not Match the Spelling?
월요일 is said [워료일]: the final ㄹ of 월 links to the vowel of 요 (liaison). Revised Romanization writes woryoil.
목요일 is said [모교일]: the final ㄱ of 목 links to the vowel of 요 (liaison). Revised Romanization writes mogyoil.
What Mistakes Do Learners Make with Days of the Week?
- Adding 에 to today or tomorrow. Say 내일 가요, not 내일에 가요.
- Mixing up 월요일 (Monday) and 월 (month). 일월 is January, 월요일 is Monday.
- Mixing up 화요일 and 수요일. They differ in the first syllable only, 화 fire and 수 water.
- Using 주 for the weekend. 주말 is the weekend, and 주 alone is the week.
These slips come from particles and from names that look alike, so say each example aloud when you answer a card.
How Does the Review Schedule Work?
The deck uses a simplified Leitner system with five boxes. A new card starts in box 1. Each Got it moves it up one box, and each Not yet returns it to box 1. The box sets how long the card waits before it is due again.
| Box | Wait until the next review |
|---|---|
| 1 | same session or 10 minutes |
| 2 | 1 day |
| 3 | 3 days |
| 4 | 7 days |
| 5 | 21 days |
Each session shows due cards first, oldest due first, and then new cards up to the daily limit, which is 10 by default. A deck of 25 cards is introduced in about three days at the default of 10 new cards a day, and the later boxes bring each day back at longer gaps. Progress is saved only in this browser, so clearing site data deletes it. Use the export button to save a small JSON file with card IDs, boxes and due dates, and import it on another device. The file holds no personal data.
Cultural and Practical Context
The weekday names come from the sun, the moon and the five elements, and Korean calendars often list Sunday first, so 일 is the leftmost column. Many Korean schedules also use the days in short form, such as 월 for Monday and 화 for Tuesday, so the single characters on the cards help you read a timetable.
Limits of This Deck
The deck holds 25 cards, a starting set rather than a full calendar vocabulary. It has no months or clock times, and no dates. 그저께 has a common short form 그제, which is not a separate card. The Korean text on this page is generated and was reviewed and signed off by Min-ji Park on 15 October 2026.
Next Steps after This Deck
This deck is one of the korean vocabulary flashcards on the site, so browse the full list if you want a different topic. When these cards feel easy, move on to months in korean flashcards to keep the same routine. For a related topic, try korean colors flashcards. After a session, write the same words by hand with the korean time words worksheet. To check what you recalled, take the days of the week in korean quiz next. All flashcard decks, including Hangul, vocabulary, phrases, grammar and TOPIK, are listed on the Korean flashcards hub.
Frequently Asked Questions
How Do I Keep 화요일 and 수요일 Apart?
They share the ending 요일 and differ only in the first syllable, 화 (fire) and 수 (water), so at speed they are easy to mix up. In listening mode, focus on the first syllable. A useful trick is to link 화 with the fire of a stove and 수 with water.
Is 공휴일 the Same as 휴일?
공휴일 is an official public holiday, while 휴일 is any day off, including a weekend. If you want to say tomorrow is a public holiday, use 내일은 공휴일이에요. 휴일 is on this deck and 공휴일 is not.
How Do I Say Every Monday?
매주 월요일 or 월요일마다. Both mean every Monday. 매주 is every week and 마다 is each time, so 월요일마다 repeats each Monday. You may add 에 after 매주 월요일, but never after 마다.
Does 그저께 Have a Short Form?
그제 is a common short form of 그저께, and both mean the day before yesterday. Learn 그저께 first, then recognize 그제 when you hear it.
Is My Progress Saved If I Close the Page?
Yes, in the same browser on the same device. Card boxes and due dates are stored locally and nothing is sent to a server. Clearing site data, using a private window or switching browsers removes them, so use the export button to keep a backup file. No account is needed.
