For practice, this page describes every item, so you can copy the exercises onto plain paper and draw your own shapes for page 3.

What Is on Each Page?

Each page uses a different skill. Page 1 is about animals and counting, page 2 is about reading and completing short sentences, and page 3 is about understanding instructions that are written only in Hangul.

Page 1: Animals and the Counter 마리

Page 1 has two parts. Part A lists ten animals in Korean, and you match each one to its English meaning by writing a letter. Part B practises the counter 마리, which is the word you put after a number to count animals.

Animal RR Meaning
개 gae dog
고양이 goyangi cat
새 sae bird
물고기 mulgogi fish (the animal)
말 mal horse
소 so cow
돼지 dwaeji pig
오리 ori duck
토끼 tokki rabbit
호랑이 horangi tiger

Part B asks for the native number that fits before 마리. Korean uses native numbers with this counter, and the first four shorten before it: 하나 becomes 한, 둘 becomes 두, 셋 becomes 세 and 넷 becomes 네.

Phrase RR Meaning
개 한 마리 gae han mari one dog
고양이 두 마리 goyangi du mari two cats
토끼 세 마리 tokki se mari three rabbits
새 네 마리 sae ne mari four birds
오리 다섯 마리 ori daseot mari five ducks

Watch two animals that look like other words. 새 means "bird" and also "new", and 말 means "horse" and also "speech". Context tells you which one is meant. The mari counter lesson has more examples.

Page 2: Weather and Seasons Sentences

Page 2 begins with the four seasons, which you match to short clues such as "flowers open" or "snow falls". Then you finish eight sentences from a word bank and write one sentence about today's weather.

Season RR Meaning
봄 bom spring
여름 yeoreum summer
가을 gaeul autumn; fall
겨울 gyeoul winter

Each sentence has one blank. The verb changes with the weather word, because Korean uses a different verb for rain and snow than for wind and temperature.

Sentence with a blank RR of the full sentence Meaning
오늘은 날씨가 ___. oneureun nalssiga malgayo The weather is clear today.
___가 와요. biga wayo It rains. (Rain comes.)
겨울에는 ___이 와요. gyeoureneun nuni wayo In winter it snows.
바람이 ___. barami bureoyo The wind blows.
여름에는 ___. yeoreumeneun deowoyo It is hot in summer.
겨울에는 ___. gyeoureneun chuwoyo It is cold in winter.
봄에는 ___. bomeneun ttatteutaeyo It is warm in spring.
가을에는 ___. gaeureneun siwonhaeyo It is cool in autumn.

Rain and snow "come", so they take 오다: 비가 와요, 눈이 와요. Wind "blows", so it takes 불다: 바람이 불어요. Temperature words are adjectives that describe the weather directly: 더워요, 추워요, 따뜻해요 and 시원해요.

겨울에는 눈이 와요.

gyeoureneun nuni wayo.

In winter it snows.

Page 3: Colour the Picture by Hangul Instructions

Page 3 shows a simple picture with eight shapes: the sun, the sky, a cloud, a tree, a flower, an apple, the sea and a bear. Each shape has a Hangul instruction in the form "object = colour". You read the instruction and colour the shape. Then you cover the instructions and write four colour words from memory.

Object RR Meaning Colour word RR
해 hae sun 노란색 noransaek
하늘 haneul sky 하늘색 haneulsaek
구름 gureum cloud 하얀색 hayansaek
나무 namu tree 초록색 choroksaek
꽃 kkot flower 분홍색 bunhongsaek
사과 sagwa apple 빨간색 ppalgansaek
바다 bada sea 파란색 paransaek
곰 gom bear 갈색 galsaek

Most colour words end in 색, which means "colour". 노란색 is yellow, 파란색 is blue and 빨간색 is red. Two sound changes are worth knowing. 초록색 is said [초록쌕], because ㅅ after a final ㄱ becomes tense. 갈색 is said [갈쌕], because in Sino-Korean words ㅅ after a final ㄹ also becomes tense. After ㄴ or ㅇ there is no change, so 빨간색 and 분홍색 are said as they are written. The colors in korean lesson explains the pattern.

The Answer Key

The key is a separate last page. It lists the letter for each animal, the number before 마리 in each phrase, the word for each blank on page 2, and the colour for each shape on page 3, with a small outline that shows where each colour goes. The weather sentence you write yourself is a personal answer, so it is not in the key.

How Do I Use This Sheet?

Plan 30 to 40 minutes, or split the sheet over two days. Save page 3 for last, because colouring is a good reward.

  1. Colour with a pencil. Light pencil lets you see the Hangul instruction through the colour, and you can fix a mistake.
  2. Say the weather aloud. Before you write each sentence on page 2, say it. Look out of the window and say the one that matches today.
  3. Learn the animals in pairs. Say each animal with its number: 한 마리, 두 마리, 세 마리. The sound of the pair is easier to remember than the word alone.
  4. Read the colour instruction before you pick a pencil. Checkpoint: you colour the bear brown and the sea blue without checking the key.
  5. Check the key, then drill. Rewrite wrong answers, then review them with the korean animals flashcards and the Korean weather flashcards.

The colouring page is not a test of drawing. Rough shapes are fine, and the point is to match a colour word with a colour.

How Do I Check Page 3?

The key shows a small outline for each shape, so you can compare your colouring. For the four hidden-instruction items, check the spelling of each colour word, including the final 색. A common slip is to write 빨강 or 노랑 instead of 빨간색 or 노란색. Those short forms exist, but the sheet practises the full word with 색.

Print at 100 percent scale in black and white, on A4 or US Letter, with 12 mm margins that leave room for a hole punch. Turn off fit-to-page, because scaling shrinks the writing boxes. Page 3 works best on white paper at full scale. If you do not have coloured pencils, write the colour name inside each shape instead.

Mistakes to Watch For

  • Mixing up 눈 (snow) and 눈 (eye). They are spelled the same. 눈이 와요 means "it snows", and 눈이 커요 means "the eyes are big". The verb tells you which one.
  • Using the wrong weather verb. Rain and snow use 오다 (비가 와요), wind uses 불다 (바람이 불어요). Do not say "바람이 와요".
  • Using the noun colour as a modifier. Before a noun, learners often say 빨간색 사과. The shorter modifier 빨간 사과 is more natural. 빨간색 is the noun, as in 빨간색을 좋아해요.
  • Forgetting 마리 for animals. Use 마리 for animals and 개 for things. Say 개 한 마리 (one dog) and 사과 한 개 (one apple).

Colour words with 색 are nouns, while the shorter forms such as 빨간, 노란, 파란 and 하얀 are modifiers that go before a noun.

What This Worksheet Does Not Cover

The sheet covers ten animals, four seasons, eight weather sentences and eight colours. It does not cover plants, landscapes, natural disasters or the long list of colour shades. For the wider topic, use the animals in korean, weather and seasons lessons. The sheet is hand practice and does not teach how weather words change for different politeness levels.

What Should I Practice Next?

After the sheet, read the korean nature vocabulary hub for the full topic and test your colours with the colors in Korean quiz or the Korean animal quiz. Drill the Korean colors flashcards as well. Find other sheets in the Korean vocabulary worksheets collection, and continue with the Korean time words worksheet.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Words Are on the Worksheet?

Page 1 has ten animals and the counter 마리. Page 2 has the four seasons and weather words such as 비, 눈 and 바람. Page 3 has eight objects and eight colour words with 색, such as 노란색 and 갈색. The key lists every answer.

Do I Need Coloured Pencils?

Not strictly. Page 3 asks you to colour eight shapes, and ordinary coloured pencils or crayons work best. If you only have a pencil, write the colour word inside each shape. The learning comes from linking the word to the colour.

Are the Weather Sentences Formal?

They use the polite 요 ending, which is right for everyday speech with teachers, shopkeepers and people you have just met. The sheet does not practise the formal -습니다 style or casual speech.

Can Children Use It?

Yes. The page is plain, the topic is concrete and colouring keeps it light. Younger learners can do one page a day and say each word aloud. Children who cannot yet read Hangul well should use the audio on this page with an adult.

Is Audio Linked?

The printed PDF has no audio. This page has play buttons for five model items, and the animals, weather and colours flashcards decks have a clip for every card.

May I Use These Worksheets in Class?
